BRIDGES experts meet with civil society representatives to discuss how to build alternative narratives on migration and counter exclusionary discourses.
BRIDGES is holding a workshop with civil society actors involved in the production of alternative narratives on migration in Germany, Italy, and Spain, to be held in Mainz on 30 September, 2022. Under the title ‘Building new narratives on migration’, this activity aims to engage key civil society actors in the co-production of more inclusive accounts on migration, providing a platform for them to share their experiences and lessons learned, the available knowledge on how to build effective non-hegemonic narratives on migration, and their potential transferability to other local and national contexts.
Experts from CUAS Mainz, Por Causa, FIERI and CIDOB will meet representatives from Arising Africans, Migration Miteinander, Lunaria Aps, RegularizaciónYa, Seebrücke Mainz and Stop Mare Mortum, among other CSOs, to discuss the best strategies and practices to build alternative narratives on migration and counter exclusionary discourses.
In the first session of the workshop, the participating CSOs will be invited to present their projects, focusing on the main challenges and achievements they encountered while developing discursive campaigns. The second session will build on these shared experiences towards the development of a toolkit for civil society organisations on how to build new narratives on migration.
The workshop will be followed by a public event in which BRIDGES researchers and CSOs representatives will elaborate on how innovative strategies against exclusionary narratives are promoted by civil society actors in the different countries covered by the project. Some of the researchers and participating CSOs will also be invited to participate in a podcast and a video on this very topic with the aim of disseminating these discussions to a wider audience.
